Tara has so easy to draw features and a peasant style to her.

Juiluina
Drawn on November 30th, 1972 in pencil. She was a model whose features the way they were lit before the dark background made this an interesting portrait to attempt. Two types of pencil was used with a bit harder on the features and a softer on the background.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal this late summer which proposed the purchase of a portrait of someone who you would never meet to become a part of your dwelling and thus life. The author said it added interest and mystique into the home.
Profile of Harvey Winter
A rugged hard working fellow who wore blue denim shirts. This is one of the sketches I did of Harvey to capture the rugged hardiness of this quiet speaking man and his appearance showed his life of work and gentle attitude. Drawn on white drawing paper in graphite pencil.

Margaret Resting
Drawing in graphite in a frame. Drawing is 17 by 14 inch paper size. The drawing was made at Lee Milmon's studio on January 27th, 1972.. It was an enjoyable pose and the contrast of the striped Indian style rug and Margaret’s form gave the simple rendering in pencil a challenging piece to sketch.

Mary in Profile
drawn in terra cotta with whiting on toned paper
Hilary in frontal view
Burnt umber pencil with whiting on toned paper. Drawing on toned paper is an approach that was used since the Renaissance to allow for more tonal study without a massive amount of filling in to gain contrast in the drawing. A touch of white will suffice to capture the light and where it falls.
